The Royal Watch theme for the 2009/10 club year - “One World” - seems especially apropos. With the 21st century’s amazing communication advances, it feels like we are all next-door neighbors, even if we live continents apart. The ubiquity of cell phones and the fascination with Facebook, My Space, You Tube, Flickr, Twitter, et. al. speak to our desire to connect with others near and far. “One World” also references our global economy. We have witnessed the fortunes of nations rising, and then falling, nearly simultaneously. And lastly, now more than ever, people the world over need to work together to help solve environmental and other crises afflicting our planet. That a Wood White butterfly in Worcestershire, England may flap her lovely wings and prevent a twister in Tornado Alley, USA is at once a scientific fact and useful metaphor.
“One World” also speaks to Harmony Kingdom’s “agenda” since its formation sixteen years ago. It has always been our goal to honor the planet’s magnificent diversity. Even our name implies the interconnectedness (Harmony) and grandeur (Kingdom) of our world.
The new club year begins April 1, 2009 and continues through March 31, 2010. The membership kit includes the Small Treasure Jest, “One World,” and a "One World" badge.
